BECAUSE becoming, and being, a mother feels like the most transformational experience of your life.

As parenting and perinatal specialists, we understand the complexities that this time brings.

You’ve dreamed about becoming a mother, but no one could have prepared you for the all-encompassing change you are experiencing - both physically and emotionally.

You feel guilty experiencing anything other than pure joy. But you’re anxious and overwhelmed, and aren’t sure how to cope with all the new demands that motherhood brings. You might have a good support system around you, but you’re often still left feeling alone. You’re constantly worried about whether you’re doing things the right way. You’re spending your time searching on google, comparing and scrolling on social media - and somehow you always end up feeling worse. Like you’re just coming up short.

You're not sure if this is the baby blues, lack of confidence, or something bigger. But you know you don’t want to keep feeling this way.

HOW IT WORKS

Navigate this transformative time with intention and insight

You need compassionate support for the life-changing journey of pregnancy and motherhood. You might be struggling with anxiety or depression, or feeling unsure of how to navigate the changes and demands that this time brings.

Therapy for pregnancy and postpartum (and beyond) is focused on helping you work through your changing identity, explore and process connections to your own childhood, and navigate the expectations and realities of parenthood. With a focus on combining insight-oriented and tools-based therapies like psychodynamic, attachment and cognitive behavioral therapy, our therapy seeks to provide relief from your symptoms of distress while helping you connect the dots from your past to your present.

We’ll help you tune in to your own maternal instinct and tune out the noise around you. We’ll break down the familial, societal and cultural factors impacting your views on what a mother should be, so you can become the mother you truly want to be.

Got questions?

  • You can expect my full presence in our sessions. I do not direct our sessions or come with an agenda. My clients bring in whatever is on their mind, or challenges and reflections that have come up in the past week. I will help you make connections, gain insight, and consider different perspectives. When needed I will gently challenge your narrative to make room for a different way of thinking or relating to a person or experience. Over time, you will begin to think and feel differently and see changes in your daily life.

I also know how important it is to start feeling relief fast, so from the first time we meet I’ll support you in developing practical tools to help you better manage your symptoms.

  • Yes, I have helped many women who have experienced birth trauma using traditional talk-therapy and/or EMDR therapy. To learn more about EMDR therapy click here.

  • Getting to know you and your story is an important part of the therapeutic process. During the first few sessions we will talk through your history, from childhood to the present, as well as begin exploring what is bringing you into therapy now. As I work from a trauma-informed psychodynamic and attachment perspective, this context will help us connect the dots to learn how your past is impacting your present.

  • While this is unique to each person, the kind of therapy I do is an investment - but it is an investment in yourself and your life. It is not a quick fix and many individuals are in therapy with me for six months or longer. This is because we are doing deeper work to create real, lasting change. My clients change the way they view themselves, show up in their relationships, and relate to the world around them. This kind of work does take time, but I promise it is worth it.

My goal is to also ensure that you are leaving each session with something concrete to put into practice so you can begin to feel better soon - whether it is a tool or skill to better manage anxiety, a way to communicate more effectively, set a healthier boundary, or speak to yourself differently.

  • In order to protect the unique therapeutic relationship, I am unable to see clients both for individual and couples therapy. If you are interested in working with me but need both individual and couples, please reach out for a consultation so we can assess what service would be best for you. I am happy to provide referrals to trusted colleagues for additional services.
