YAEL SHERNE, LMFT
explore your past, understand your present, empower your future.
As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I offer individual and couples counseling to support clients navigating the life-changing journey of parenthood. My clients are hopeful, expectant, and new mothers and fathers who are struggling with the stressors this time brings. Whether you are facing the heartbreak of infertility or miscarriage, experiencing anxiety and depression during pregnancy or postpartum, or lacking confidence as a new parent, therapy with me can help.
My work as a therapist began at a nonprofit community health center which supported women struggling with anxiety and depression, relationships, life transitions and more. I later received specialized training at a nonprofit parenting center, where I worked with new and seasoned parents alike, ran therapy groups, and supported individuals and couples through relational challenges, parenting struggles and personal hardship. After opening my own practice in 2021, I focused on supporting women and couples throughout all stages of their family building journeys. I have worked with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and non-traditional relationship structures, and am LGBTQIA+ affirming.
This practice is inclusive and welcomes all.

MY APPROACH
Clients describe me as empathetic & insightful, warm & direct.
My work is relational, collaborative, and human. I believe the relationship between you and your therapist is the most critical factor in therapy being effective. I will be equally committed to your growth, and will come as my authentic self - this means there will be depth, insight, humor, and gentle challenging when needed. I know showing up to therapy is not always easy, but I also know that the work is worth it and through it you can find real, lasting change.
Each person comes to see me with their own unique story and needs. My goal is to help you understand how your past experiences impact your present life, so you can begin to make the best choices for your authentic self. To do this, my approach is grounded in trauma-informed psychodynamic and attachment therapy. This means that together, we will help you uncover unconscious patterns that are impacting your thoughts, behaviors, relationships and choices. We’ll explore early childhood relationships and experiences that have shaped how you view yourself, others and the world around you. While some of this deeper and lasting work takes longer to occur, I will provide you with practical tools and skills you can implement immediately to quickly relieve symptoms of pain and distress.
My guiding principles
COMPASSION
Compassion allows you to approach this work with openness - not judgment or shame. When we unburden ourselves and lead with compassion, we can achieve deeper understanding and create space for healing and growth.
CURIOSITY
Reflection and curiosity are core to the therapy process and its effectiveness. When we are entrenched in critical narratives about ourselves, there is no space to believe in a different outcome. Curiosity opens up possibilities for a new way of looking at things.
CLARITY
I believe that our past influences our present - the way we think, act, and feel. By helping you uncover these connections, you can better understand your patterns, and make room for a new way of being. One that is more aligned with your true self.
CONNECTION
Humans are relational beings, we need connection to thrive. Therapy should be your safe relational home, a place to be vulnerable and true to your authentic self. This will foster deeper connection both inside and outside of the therapy room.
